Title:
[i855gm] VGA out flickering after upgrade
** Description changed:
Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel
Hi,
I am experiencing problems with the VGA Output in 10.04 (lucid), but it
worked fine in 9.10 (karmic). I did a clean installation, not an
upgrade, but could verify that the problems are not there in 9.10 by
A promlem appeared. Earlier I enabled th VGA had a clone, disabled the
LVDS and played some video file. Then I enabled my LVDS and disabled
VGA. Now my VGA appears to be disconnected, which makes it unusable.
Reconnecting the cable doesn't help...

Today I tried Brian Rogers 845/855 kernel and it solved the flickering
problem.
With 2.6.37 I had a black screen after booting but
"linux-image-2.6.35-ppa21+v9patch-generic" works pretty fine for me.
One side effect is the middle mouse button, it doesn't paste anymore right now.
If I encounter o
I'm experiencing the same issue on a new installed Ubuntu 10.04 LTS
64bit (with latest kernel) on a Lenovo ThinkPad T410s also with intel
graphics adapter (based on the i5Core).
Strange thing is that a Lenovo ThinkPad T510 works without problems
(this one is based on i7Core but also intel graphics
Correction: The affected machine is a Thinkpad X40, not X41 - sorry!

That's strange. I also have a machine with a built-in GMA 4500 MHD
graphics (a Lenovo Thinkpad X301), but I could not observe the mentioned
flickering on the VGA out there (I am using 1024x768 with 60Hz) - the
problem appeared only on my older X41 with the i855GM chipset.
Can somebody else confirm
I can report the same on a Dell Vostro 3300 with a built-in Intel
GMA4500HD graph card. Running lucid 10.04 with xorg-edgers ppa for
latest drivers. No restricted driver used (should not be necessary, does
it even exist?).
At any resolution except 1024*768 with 75.1 (why the dot one?) mhz do I
get
This problem also appears on the JVC MP-XV941 / Asus S3N exactly as
described in #1.
Using a refresh rate of 75Hz @ 1024x768 does indeed produce a stable
output, as well as resolutions above that. But I cannot find any rate to
get lower resolutions like 800x600 usable.

I see exactly the same thing as Daniel Kulesz mentions at #5.
The problem occurs at 1024x768, 60hz and 70hz, and goes away at 75hz (Thanks

Alright...I just tried with the latest Karmic kernel (2.6.31-22-generic)
in lucid - there is no boot parameter needed and no flickering on the
external VGA, so this problem can be solved by downgrading the kernel.
Should this bug be rather filed against the linux-image-generic package
then? Or cou

I have found signs that this is a common problem simply by googleing
"ubuntu+10.4+thinkpad+x40+display+problems". A few of the results on the
first three pages indicate similar problems. I will keep trying to find
a solution to this problem, and if i have to, write a patch for it
myself. In the mea
