To be complete, I only need to add nomodeset to
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT to get rid of the flicker.

Hey Milton,
Hi, have you had a chance to test if this bug is still present in natty?
If it does (and if you're the original reporter), please boot into natty
and run the command:
apport-collect bug-number
which will update the bug with fresh logs and tag the bug as affecting
natty. (It is

Ubuntu Maverick with ATI RADEON screen corruption
I found that solution in some forum (alas, I don't remember which one).
But the relevant thing is that this problem is affecting a lot of ubuntu
users since 10.04 at least (which means, almost a year), and there
wasn't a solution even if there are tons of complains in forums an
blogs. Today they

SOLVED. (I hope!)
These are the steps:
remove everything that has something to do with the graphics enviroment,
as it says here:
Then,
$ sudo gedit /etc/default/grub
and change this line:
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT=quiet splash
for this one:
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT=quiet splash nomodeset
Hehehe, I forgot to paste a link.

Well, I didn't get an answer of this issue. Fortunately, I just
installed the latest AMD ATI Drivers and that solved the problem.

Ubuntu Maverick with ATI RADEON screen corruption
Ok, it wasn't the new AMD ATI Drivers what seemed to solve the
problem, which is still present.
This is what I just did:
I've removed all packages fglrx, xserver-xorg-video-ati and xserver-
xorg-video-radeon.
I reinstalled xserver-xorg-video-ati and the mesa libraries.
I deleted the xorg.conf.
This problem is still present with the new kernel 2-6.35-23. The only
workaround is -still- using this other kernel http://kernel.ubuntu.com
