What wasn't cool is that I noticed
that flac and sox processes which I assume are handling the conversion
are running as root instead of the slim user :-( That kind of defeats
the purpose of creating a chroot jail for the server.
Hmm... can a non privileged user launch processes as a privileged
Ok. I got it fixed. I'm not sure what Mandriva did in the 2006.0
version, but I don't really care either.
1. copied /usr/local/slimserver.pl to /usr/local/slimserver
2. modified /etc/init.d/slimserver
Changed SLIMSERVER_BIN="$SLIMSERVER_HOME/slimserver.pl" to

Hi All -

Is it possible to get this working? 30 minutes of googling has turned

Hello,
I just installed slimserver from sources on a new Gentoo Linux server.
It's all working fine and I was going to attempt to chroot it for some
added precaution. But I wanted to see how it performed on my old 1.6Ghz
P4 so I did a quick "top". That showed me that while converting quality

Just a quick note to all the *nix heads. The latest nightly works
perfectly for me. I thought it was time to stick my feet into the 6.*
world. I have been running 5.4.something for a long long time.
So I downloaded the current nightly
slimserver-2005_10_11-1.noarch.rpm
onto my Mandrava 10.1 syste

There's more problem than that:
using /usr/local/slimserver/usr/local/slimserver/HTML/EN/XX:
Parent directory (/usr/local/slimserver/usr/local/slimserver/HTML/EN/)
is not writable
at /usr/local/slimserver/CPAN/Template/Document.pm line 280
indicates that slimserver is trying to write to

Well... to fix this, I edited the init script to run as root:
# daemon --user $SLIMSERVER_USER $SLIMSERVER_BIN $SLIMSERVER_ARGS

and it works now, except for some harmless (?) errors:
