I looked at DSL-N for a bit, and that looks like it might not be the
answer for a future SlimCD "live CD" either. I wonder if just using
Ubuntu to make a new live CD with SqueezeCenter might be the answer to
this problem.

Ubuntu should be easy and fine, I run Squeezecenter on Debian Etch, and
it can even play Apple files and BBC Radio (altough with some tweaking
and plugins) on a old Pentium III 1Ghz PC with 384 MB of RAM.
I myself run it headless (without the GUI), but with the GUI in Ubuntu

The ramification of this change is then if you "emerge --sync" the

I agree that the Ubuntu route will probably be the easiest since there
are apt repositories for the things that you'll need. I'm running
FreeBSD on mine (FreeNAS with Michael Herger's SlimNAS extension) and
the overhead is very low. It doesn't run any GUI and runs pretty
decently on a Celeron 600

If you have time to unmerge mysql as well, sure, it wouldn't hurt, but
I'm pretty sure the ebuild handles that dep OK.
BTW, if anyone else out there has tested successfully on an arch, just
