Thanks gromeck... do the cover art images appear in the web interface
after your install? That's all that seems to be broken in my setup.
Thanks a lot for this HOWTO!
Works perfect - openSUSE 13.1 32-bit.

Hi to all,
reading the threads about running the LMS on openSUSE 13.1 here, I found
at least that I am not alone ...
Unfortunatly I can't post my solution here including URLs :-(

So, here is my solution to get it running ... maybe it's useful for
someone:
- Get the latest RPM from slimdevices:
http://downloads.slimdevices.com/nightly/index.php?ver=7.9
- Install it:
Code:
rpm -i

Strangely, following another reboot, LMS is now running quite well...
cover art thumbnails don't seem to be available, but otherwise working
pretty well...

BTW, what's the best Linux distribution for running LMS and stuff like

most software I am interested in seems to have been built only for

Thanks for the info... I'm interested in answers

You guys are more then welcome to use the 'Community Squeeze Repo'

I have a LMS 7.8 nightly from last December working 99.8% ok. The only
thing that currently seems to be broken is the Perl Zlib module, which
means that plugin updates cannot be

You may need to install sox. IIRC that's used for a lot of format

I do have Sox installed. I didn't have these problems when on OpenSuse

But am i the only one who's experiencing this?

I'm very happy that LMS now works 'out of the box' with OpenSuse 13.1.
Only one thing isn't working anymore. For my mobile phone as a mobile
player i got the server to convert my FLAC's to mp3. This always worked
well but now on Suse 13.1 it doesn't.
I can play mp3 files and i can also let the
Hopefully this thread is still being monitored.
I'm running 13.1 64 bit on intel iron. I had to resort to the nightly
build to get LMS to work. The stable RPM didn't run and don't even get
me started on the tarball. [Perl is sure picky.]
I used the nightly build on New Years day and it more or
Yes, it said in the thread that you must use the nightlies.
As for the error messages, the LANG error is always there. The others
look as if you did not specify a directory for videos and pictures. But
if you do not have any (like me) ignore this.
Correct. I have no pictures or video. I don't even know where they would
be played. I have a some old Squeezebox classics and a boombox .I
suppose the boombox can show a pciture, but does it play video? In any
event, what about this error message:

I have found a problem with the installation. If you go to the plugin

selecting restart actually restarts the server. But even doing so from

Hi,
I just noticed in the change log of LMS 7.8

Johan, thank you. How did you find this!!
I've spent many hours trying to solve LMS on Linux (openSUSE) with the
official RPM, the perl source tar, the buildme.sh, learning about cpan
and building Perl modules... etc., etc., etc.
All good experience and something I can put on a resumé, but not
The install worked as you said. Now I need to install mplayer to get
many plugins to work.
The main link is http://packman.links2linux.org/package/128
But the 1-step install does not work for 13.1, and even after installing
the codec packages, I am left with unresolved dependencies:

Hi,
I installed a virtual server with OpenSUSE 13.1 to test LMS 7.8...
and LMS is not only running on OpenSUSE 13.1 but it also installed
perfectly. No need for creating any links or adding any new version of
PERL CPAN modules.
Having said this I should also say that my tests so far are very
Hi,
No, it was the RPM package for LMS 7.8 from this URL:
http://downloads.slimdevices.com/nightly/index.php?ver=7.8
Please note that I tested only on a 64-bit OpenSUSE 13.1 installation. I
have no idea if LMS 7.7.3 or LMS 7.8 will run on a 32-bit OpenSUSE
13.1.
You can read the change
Has anyone tried the Squeezebox server on the new OpenSUSE 13.1? If so,
please let us know whether/how it works, and also the easiest way to get
the server up and working.
Thanks,
