Hello guys,
Was wondering if this is a known issue that is being addressed?
I've got ACS 4.5.2 with KVM and Ceph rbd. I am unable to create Templates from
existing volumes.
When I try to create a template from a volume (50GB in size), I have a timeout
error (probably about 5 - 10 minutes
Does it work if you do it manually, ie. outside of cloudstack?
Could quite possibly be something wrong with ceph, considering you had
issues with VRs as well.

Hi Andrei;
I am using similar setup(ACS+CEPH+
Right, i've done some more testing and here are my results:
1. The template creation from the GUI seem to be broken either by using Volume
> Template method or by using Volume > Snapshot > Template.
2. Manual creation of templates work by doing: Volume > Download (Save locally)
s on a small 50gb volume.

Hi,
I have 1 question:
Why does CS 4.2 now do: cp -f volume1 template1 (makes template1 from
volume1), when in old CS 4.0 qemu-img was used ???
qemu-img does compress zeros inside qcow2 image, so it was doing nice job
on optimizing disk size of newly created template...
Same story (cp -f) when

Anyone has any other tips ?
Get access to the logs and find the real error. If you can't do that
and the template is at least extractable, download the template and
upload it to another environment where you can get the logs. If neither
is possible, try creating a new template from scratch

I tried to generate a template. I stopped the instance and through the UI
clicked on the 'generate a template icon. Ubuntu12.04 is not an available OS

Yeah, a couple of things to remember when creating templates.
Delete persistant net rules for udev:
/bin/rm /etc/udev/rules.d/70-persistent-net.rules
Delete SSH host keys:
/bin/rm /etc/ssh/ssh_host_*
Depending on your OS of choice (and if you are using Advanced networking)
