I'm looking to achieve a certain layout effect in LibreOffice writer, but it's a bit hard to describe. I can demonstrate it in HTML: http://heeris.id.au/test/test.html ...but basically, I want a certain style of subheading to appear to the left of the body of text for which it is the heading.

It does work (at least in version 3.5.0 under Windows). The problem is that you can only insert an image as the background so it will either be stretched or tiled to take the whole header area. The only way around is to create an image that has the exact header dimensions e.g. 0.5cm Height x 17cm
