Hi :)
There is nothing actually stopping you from continuing to use Xp.
Something like 30% of desktops are still on Xp.
Just take care to avoid phishing scams etc. Also consider a dual-boot on
it.
If you want to give a Gnu&Linux a go then it's best to download (torrent if

Agreed, Jay.
I learned about the XP support expiration on the evening news a few
months ago. Until then, it never occurred to me that M$ would stop
supporting its OS. That thought wasn't on my radar screen, which
probably (and fairly) says more about me and my (lack of) computer

Brian,
Thank you for the clarification. I do want to be fair, even in my anger.
My apologies to M$ concerning notice of the expiration of XP.
That said, as a typical Windows user, it never occurred to me to go to a
Microsoft website to determine the lifecycle for XP. When I bought my

A work colleague just tried Zorin (http://zorin-os.com/) as a

Ubuntu repositories. The download will run as a live disc to check out
all your hardware will work.
Worked well, a little fiddle with the wifi, but in all a goo

It looked to me like Brian had a good handle, and that I had missed
something. I think if I followed what he was saying, the key is to put
in a manual break first, and I must have missed that.

StarOffice became OpenOffice. LibreOffice split off from OpenOffice
when Oracle took over. IIRC, the formats that are no longer supported
