OOo runs under the X11 windowing system which is an optional install
under OS 10.4. An alternative that is more Mac like is NeoOffice

Except that NeoOffice/J is based on OOo 1.1.4 only for now.
But I work with it everyday, it is a really nice adaptation of OOo.

My parents just got a new Mac Mini running OSX Tiger.
I have it on my tiger machine. I have had no trouble with it at all.
My only problem with it is that it does not play well with iListen.
You cannot dictate into it at all.
