Maybe you can use an ssh -X session to your Ubuntu server to run the VirtualBox
GUI.
At least for performing the initial setup. After that use VBoxManage to start
headless.
Another option might be to install the VM on your Laptop, perform the
Did you use VBoxManage or VBoxHeadlesss to create the ZEG.ova on your
headless Ubuntu Server?
IF so, and if you can't identify the IP by scanning the network, can you
specify the IP when you create the virtual machine in VBoxManage or
VBoxHeadless? http://www.virtualbox.org/manual/ch08.html
I simply ran VBoxManage import. No options to set IP address. It says on
the Sogo website to be sure you have a dhcp sever on your network, which
I do. It is as previously mentioned running on a Win2008 server (we are
in the process of migrating from Win to Linux). It does not show any
entry
It may be an address outside the ip_address range.
THAT's why I suggested one of the free ip scanners to scan all ports
and ips.
Try nmap on Ubuntu . . .

Hi Andy
Thanks for your reply. I have been out of circulation for a few days
with floods and illness.
I can't log on to sogo on my server as it has no gui interface, and
hence no terminal access to sogo, and I can't ssh because don't know the ip.
I have subsequently tried installing sogo on
You can login on the terminal of the physical machine (plug in a monitor on
that machine). You don't need an ip for that. Or can you tell how the
structure is. Is it a vm on an accessible pc or is it a physical machine?

Hi Andy
It's a debian/ubuntu issue thinking it has a second adapter now.
ubuntu new adapter wrong eth /etc/udev/rules.d/70-persistent-net.rules

I think you are referring to the trial of the ZEG system on my headless
server, not the version on my laptop..
So on the server, the host is Ubuntu server 12.04 without gui.
I cannot ssh from the host to the vm -
ssh sogo@ZEG-2.1.1b
ssh: Could not resolve hostname ZEG-2.1.1b: Name or service
Hi Steve, thanks for the suggestion.
The only rule in that file was one starting with SUBSYSTEM=='net'. Not
not sure if that is what you meant - it did reference et* and eth0,
within it. Anyway I deleted it. After rebooting the problem remains. The
file had been rebuilt with exactly (as far as
How are you installing the ZEG? VMware or Virtualbox?

NAT or Bridged (bridged works best for me)
As for Ubuntu, check out /etc/network/interfaces for

Go to your physical sogo server.
In that server you can login as sogo with password sogo.
Then you enter ifconfig.
Now you can look for your ip address.

Hi all
I am fully new to this.
I have installed the sogo vm on my ubuntu server. This server does not
have a gui. I do not know how to connect to this device. It does not
appear in my (Windows 2008) DNS, so I do not have an IP for it!
Any ideas?
Thanks
John
