What I get out of this double-speak is: We will push to amend our law to
allow metric only if the EU amends their law to allow dual. If I'm not
mistaken, Bernot wrote to us once before, and stated that even if the US
gave in and amended the FPLA, her company still would not drop the

The issue may never come up. In years past, when negotiating trade pacts
with the EU and Japan, these countries always bought up the metric issue as
a stumbling block to smooth trade.
Unless the Latin American (LA) countries somehow mention that their
economies are heavily metric and

Consumer opposition is a farce, or at best a lame excuse. What opposition
did the auto industry receive from consumers? How about wine, spirits and
soft drinks? What about cameras and film? What about mouthwashes, hair
products and cosmetics? Plus other already metric products?

Good job, Darrick! I think you guys are on to something. It's as

Thanks, Gene, but it was a bit intense. Had I been a bit more temperate
in tone, the letter would have been more likely to be published.
Hopefully it will at least be read and considered by the editor.
It felt good writing that letter, though.

O! Thank you! Keep up the good work! Let's start a list of products
that support the metric system. Oh! I almost forgot: I will contact them
ASAP and tell them that I will buy their product, supporting the people who
support metrics.

Hello everyone,
Out of curiosity, I measured the amount of water the filter (primary)
chamber could hold in my Brita pitcher. I discovered that it holds exactly
one liter; so, I called Brita. I asked the Brita representative if the
designers of their pitcher intentionally created it with metric

Madan,
You forgot an important reason some vendors avoid the simplicity
of SI. Some less-ethical vendors like confusion of units so that they
can mislead, if not deceive, consumers about the price/amount of product.
Almost without exception, vendors oppose mandatory unit pricing laws.

Periodically on this list, people ask about the availability of various
metric items such as tape measures, thermometers, and so forth. I have a
catalog from a company that has a wide variety of instruments (e.g.,
metric altimeter good to 5000 m, metric triangular rulers/scales).
The company is B
