Doing mysqldump every half hour on a large data volume indeed can cause a number
of performance problems. If those are MyISAM tables, use mysqlhotcopy ( or your
own hack). If they are InnoDB, I would recommend buying a license so you can get
the hot backup utility. mysqldump is not a good
