Yesterday I upgraded to Ubuntu 7.10 Gutsy Successfully.
My Virtual Box (Windows XP) also was upgraded to Gutsy .386.
When started Virtual Box I noticed that my USB ports where not there.
In "Settings" I get the following message:
Failed to access the USB Subsystem.
Could not load the Host USB Proxy
I followed all the steps suggested below.
in Properties I had an ID:1005
I rebooted.
No changes.
Still I am unable to have USB ports working on Virtual Box.
After intensive search I found the following:

Reluctantly, yesterday I went ahead and updated Ubuntu 7.10 to Ubuntu 8.04.
After 45 minutes of downloading and 50 minutes of installing, I had problem
with "gcc-3.3-doc" (which I finally deleted it after searching for an hour
for solutions).
Ubuntu 8.04 brought with it Firefox3, which is a welcome
I am spending hours and days in Forums to attempt solving the problems that
came with the installation of
Hardy Heron Ubuntu 8.04.
My sincere apologies if I am a bit sarcastic being awfully disappointed with
this new version of Ubuntu.
I experienced many frustration with Ubuntu 6.06, 7.04 and 7.10

When I tried to open Virtual box I had a notice that the new version is
available for download.
I tried the suggested URL but there was a conflict, so through Synaptics I
un-installed the old one and installed the new one.
I received this notice:

I have installed Windows XP in VirtualBox on Ubuntu 8.04 for

succefully.
But when it came time to add the Guest Additions from the "Devices"
in the Menu Bar, was impossible.

Would you be kind to explain which "download link" you're referring to,
