I prefer to omit colour preserver but when tying with a silver or gold thread inlay, it can be a problem as the wraps becomes translucent one can see the hidden tags through the wrap. I would not have used the 1985 varnish. I have an unopened bottle of Gudebrod rod varnish in front of me as I t

Hi Wes, Here is a bass article on setting the hook. It is more for gear fishers, but does give some insight. http://wired2fish.scout.com/story/1466101-do-you-set-the-hook-wrong We do quite a bit of bass fishing here in Indiana. Sometimes giving the bass a 1-2 count before setting the hook helps.
