My LCIII's usually work fine without a PRAM battery, so the drive
issue might not be related to the lack of a PRAM battery!
Check the connection between the logic board and the hard drive; also,
see if the drive itself makes some noises as you turn the computer on

Yes, but then you'd need an interface that would work painlessly with
the Mac OS. There's a japanese company (artmix, I think) which
produces SCSI-CF and SCSI-IDE-CF bridges, but they are way too
expensive! (about $100 for a SCSI-CF interface...)

My adapter works on both the LC and a PowerMac G3 (the Gossamer, beige

My Unimac adapter has the labeling for the dip switches in a sticker

As for the adapter, I've successfully connected a LC to my 17'' Nokia
CRT (with a VGA connection). It worked well, but I had to run it at
640x480, with 16 colours... the LC has so little VRAM! :)

combinations to get the allowed resolutions! (at least mine has...)

Maybe it could be an issue with the autosensing feature - my IIci's
Asanté card required a 10baseT hub in order to work. Connecting it to
my 10/100 router would result in a failed connection.

I believe AfterDark will do the trick... I remember it had a module
which would display a slideshow of images located in a specified
folder. And given that AfterDark is (almost) abandonware (you can get
it for free from The Macintosh Software Garden, for instance), it will
meet your criteria. :)

This video does not feature the Apple II! One of the reasons Apple
grew to be the company we know today (otherwise it wouldn't have left
Woz's garage). Other than that, the models are really well made,
although the display on the '84 Macintosh looks a little bit too
glassy to me :).
