And if your face isn’t recognized you can still review your lock screen, and it won’t fire off again unless you slide up from the bottom of the screen. You don’t need to worry about anything like your data being wiped because it didn’t recognize your face after five or ten attempts. -- Christop

Hi James, You should go to Settings, Face ID and Passcode and become familiar with the various settings found within that screen.
