I agree the later the bluetooth spec the better, but I'm not sure the
lag issue is just due to the version of bluetooth supported on your
headphones. I have no lag on my Bluez from Aftershox, and they're using
bluetooth technology from a few years ago.

Problem with the AirPods is they cover your ears, which isn't so good
for us blind folks if we're traveling etc. I have the same headset as
you, and I get around a quarter second lag. What I dislike about
Bluetooth headsets is that you can only have one device playing through
the headset at once.
I very much enjoy my Trekz Titaniums for travel situations. One thing to really
be careful of when choosing headsets is to make certain they use the latest
possible Bluetooth version. The Titaniums use 4.1 and I don't experience any
lag whatsoever with Voiceover use. Same with my new Aukey
Yes, the new model is fantastic. I have it paired to my Watch and Phone
(it sucks because it's bluetooth), but it's really useful.

Hi Paul, I use the After Shox and really like them. I understand the new
titanium model is even lighter, and more durable as well.
Have a good one:
