Hello all.
I am in the process of buying a NAS drive where I want to store our
music library and play it on various I-devices and sonos.
However, reading various posts from this mailing list, it seems I
cannot omit having a computer turned on with the actual Itune app
running. Is that correct?

Depending on the model of NAS you get, you can stream music, and even movies in
the right format from the Nas to your iPHon, iPad, but not appleTV. If you
want the iTunes experience, the computer will need to be on with iTunes running.

Hi Kliphton.
Thank you for your answer. So there is no way out of having a computer
with iTunes running if I want to be able to stream my music Collection
onto my iphone?
Well, that is unfortunate. would it then not just be easier to use
home share to share the library across I-devices or are
preserving space is the only advantage, unless they come up with a jail break
for the third gen appleTV

Hi, I've struggled with the same issue. Unfortunately, Apple TV does not
support DLNA so it won't see your NAS. I'm still hoping Apple will ad
this support some day. For now, you can only stream from either your
iTunes library with the computer on or from iCloud stuff you have
purchased. I
