I recently started using an app called moves. I believe it was free and it is pretty accessible. You just put it in your pocket and let it record not only your steps but the amount of time you've walked the calories you've burned and one other thing I can't remember at the moment. Smile.

I have used iTreadmill for over 2 years. It works very well. It uses the accelerometer in an iPhone to count steps, so it also works indoors on something like a treadmill. One needs to set their stride length so the distance reading is accurate. I use the default and it is fine for me. It also
