If you're plugged into a computer's USB port, use the iPhone charger
instead. Also, fully power down the phone or at least put it on Airplane
mode to speed up charging. It really should only take a couple of hours

Don't worry, electronics will take care not to overcharge the battery.
Not sure why phone will report both 100 % capacity and charging at the
same time; maybe it is scharging with low current to prevent battery from
heating.

I wouldn't worry about over charging. I have noticed this though. If you
unplug the charger from the phone and plug it right back in though, it will say
on AC power.

Unless you want to have the phone in a battery case all the time I would
recommend a decent size external battery. If you only want to use it
occasionally this will be a better option because you can get one which can
charge your iPhone several times and you can use it to charge most anything

Tara, when the phone is plugged in and you check the battery read out at the
top right, does it announce a percentage followed by the word "charging"? If
your phone is actually charging it will say so or, if it was at 100% and fully
charged it may say "100%, on AC power". If it only says the per
your research and read the customer reviews.
