That is exactly how I used to do searches in this app. However, it
doesn't seem to work anymore. When I press the reference button to
initiate the search, nothing seems to happen.

It seems that the iPhone 4S and maybe the 4 read that Menu area
perfectly. But you can access your bookmarks whenever you get to the
Bible area. I am still looking for a way to access my notes as well.
