Version 11 had an update which came out yesterday. The checkbox you
are referring to is already checked both on the computer and on the
phone. Your point about ITunes not starting up makes a lot of sense
but ITunes is telling me that my phone is not connected even though it
is.
On 1/24/14,
I've just installed the itunes update 11.1.4 on my Windows 7 PC. The
installation got almost to the end but then stopped and declared Apple Mobile
Services could not start. I had to abort update but then itunes refused to
start. Googled it and lots of people suffering! I went into control
in Windows, or Option + Shift + S
in OS X..
