Happens here too Suzanne. Going out of the app and going back in can help.
Found if I try and answer another word sometimes that releases the screen too.
Now if I could just figure out the associations, I would be happier! Smiley!

I find that if I exit the game and come back in, that most of the time it
has resorted itself for the remaining missing items to show on the page I am
on.
If the pending item does not let you bring focus to it to type the letters
in, either use one of your hints, or sometimes double tap on a
