There has been recent comment (in newspaper tech columns) that several users have found that Facebook doesn't close properly (as when not in use) in recent versions of the app; that it's also draining the iPhone battery by constantly updating one's location etc information in the background.

It can't hurt, but I also don't want to be an "app switcher neat freak" and close every app each time it is opened. I usually keep my app switcher with between 10 and 14 apps running at any one time, and often more like 10 to 12. IMO, too much above that and you are slowing down your device.
