My iPhone5s is telling me this with greater increasity lately, as I attempt to
use the finger print reader. Quite frankly, it is driving me nuts!!! So much
so, I’ve been tempted to return to having a unlocked phone. What stops me, is

Do you have "reduce motion" turned on? If not, go to
settings>general>accessibility and swipe down to "reduce motion" and
toggle it to on. This makes a huge difference for finger print scanning.
If you've already done this, then not sure what to suggest. Any lotions

Hmmm, maybe I’ll create a third finger. It is my thumb that gives me the most
trouble. I find if I am more careful and slow down a bit, my middle finger
works pretty consistently.

I check my battery health and it showed it was 98 which I believe is pretty
good for a phone that is going to be three years old this spring. I have a 6s
plus.
