I’ve always set my auto lock to never. All of the sudden my phone locks after
30 seconds. I looked at display and brightness settings and the choice of
times for auto lock is set to 30 seconds but is dimmed so I can’t change it.

Well, I can tell you that the phone respects every screen lock setting I
choose. That is to say, when I set the screen to lock after 4 minutes, it does
not lock until 4 minutes have passed. When I then set it to lock after 30
seconds, so, too, does it perform.
