directory in the “database” directory were the log files can be replaced, thus

For a default open source build there is not specific stop command/script .
To stop the database you connect with the Virtuoso isql command line tool to
the running instance on port (or whatever it is running on) and run
checkpoint; followed by shutdown; ...

command that can be used for executing multiple isql commands at once or are
you seeking to be able to load a series sql command as part of one transaction
and commit when done ?
