Hello,
I would like to work with tightVNC and Win 2000 advance Server and XP... I
have tried to put as a Service, this works but not properly the problem
is that if you are not loggen on the system the VNC are not running.
Is it there any patch to solve this?
Thanks a lot

Is there anyway to setup VNC to start as a service on win9x using a login
script on a NT domain? I've gotten it to install with a login script and
set the password, but I cant seem to get it to run as a service. I want to
do this via a login script as I dont want to go to 250 devices at 5

Try setting the default settings via the start button -> programs -> vnc ->
administrative tools -> show default settings.
I think the settings are just in the current user side.

Jacob,
Thanks for your help, still no luck. I do have a d-link router between cable
modem and PC and I have configured it to forward port 5900 to the ip address of
the linux box running vncserver . I also forward 5901
to the same box. But this is what I get when trying to run vncviewer from work.
Are these machines absolutely identical?? Eg, same video cards, same video
card drivers, same NICs, same NIC drivers?? VNC (and many remote desktop
tools) make maximum use of video cards in particular, so you may have to
play with the driver versions.
Several users have reported issues with ATI
Forgive me if this is an old problem but I've searched the FAQ and scanned the recent
archives and not found it.
I've installed VNC but when I start the server and hover the cursor over the taskbar
icon it says "not listening". If I open the properties box the "Accept Socket
Connection" box is
PII 233, 128 mb ram, 4 gig SCSI hd, window 2K sp2. This is one of probably
75 machines. Of the 75, 5 of them are having trouble. This machine is the
worst of the bunch. Completely unusable.

I've heard this as well. Now, AMD's Hammer/Opteron/whatever they're calling
it this week sounds really tasty. Mmm, 32/64 bit hybrid goodness

My understanding is that XP provides a 32-bit X86 virtual machine, much in
the same way that NT4.0 Alpha did - and we all know how swift and efficient
THAT was (the emulator, that is).

I haven't a clue. Will ordinary x86 programs run on Itanium under
XP/64? If so, then probably. However, from reports I've heard,
ia64's x86 emulation is extremely inefficient.

That's what TightVNC ( www.tightvnc.com ) is for. It compresses the data
stream for better performance over slow connections. It puts some load on
the processors at both ends so it's best used with slow connections.
Tight is completely compatible with AT&T VNC - you could substitute the

Thanking you,
I had a problem that sounds similar. I could connect, but the connection was being
immediately closed. Using RRE or Raw compression, I could sometimes stay connceted
for 15-20 seconds before the connection closing. I fixed it by going into the
registry of the server machine and removing all
Hi ,
What are the ways of improving vnc performance over a dialup line? 8 bit
does increase the performane a lot.

Hello,
there we want to set up a *NON* microsoft network for customers, there
should also be a possibility to "remote-control" a linux desktop (the one
where the customer works with, not xserver:1 etc)
Is that option also in VNC possible ???
with kind regards,
