Hi All!
Ive been monitoring the startup of the service VNC-server.
When it starts up it want to open up communication on port 65516 - anyone
know why that is?
Would appriciate a reply from anyone that might know something about it or
someone that might have the same deal? (if you've noticed)

I'm running WinVNC 3.3.4 server as a service on an XP Pro box with the
latest service packs. The XP box is part of a networked workgroup, so the
Fast User Switching "feature" (which I gather causes problems) is turned
off. I'm connecting to it with a client on a sun solaris X machine (x2
wouldn't that be classed as illegal monitoring??

When I "Disable Remote Keyboard and Mouse" in RealVNC 3.3.4, all colors are pretty
close.
When I UNcheck it, colors are crazy... nothing CLOSE to real screen colors.
Is anyone else going through this?

Until very recently, I used VNC in a very similar environment, including
the Cisco VPN.
In my case, the Cisco VPN Concentrator was not "outside" the Pix
firewall, but parallel to it. So when I establish a VPN connection, I
am not going through the firewall at all.

Bluetooth has a range of upto 10 meters, if you're that close to the machine
would you use VNC?
The only application I can see for VNC over Bluetooth would be to control a
server in a server room from a laptop, terminal, or PDA which is moved

TightVNC was. Const is the one who coded it.
eSVNC is based on TightVNC and consequently includes all the cool TightVNC
functionnalities.

sytem. When I'm viewing one app (toad) on NT and do a ctrl-c to copy a
highlighted line the viewer goes away. It's as if I'm sending a kill to

I have used vnc (viewer) on a Pocket PC device using WiFi.
As for Bluetooth, I am wholly ignorant there.

You can use poll full screen (depending on the connection speed this
might be the best), change it from default settings on the server.

I have just yesterday downloaded andinstalled vnc 3.3.4 on two RedHat
7.1 boxes, one in the office and one at home.
The office systems have ADSL connection to the Internet, with PAT (Port
Address Translation) provided by the ISP and an internal hardware
firewall. Because of the PAT
I'm using Terminal Services to control a remote PC, and RealVNC for other users to view
what I'm doing. I can only get 256 colors.
Any help?

Sorry, I meant to say that the servers that are hosting VNC at the remote
site are a mixture of Win2k and NT4.0, so I don't know if there is an issue
with OS version between good and bad.
I am using 3.3.3r9. At this point, it doesn't hurt to upgrade to 3.3.4 just

802.1X authentication using the MD-5 Challenge method.
The problem I'm having is that a pop-up balloon icon is supposed to appear
above the system tray/taskbar in XP which prompts the user to enter

need to log on at the machine's console and start the service. When it
displays the Default Properties dialog, enter a password and click OK.
