Hi,
Is it possible to install the server without the viewer or to disable the
viewer. We wish to use VNC as a Help Desk Tool by installing it on all PC's
giving it the same password. However, we do not want to give all users the
ability to access other PC's on the network. This should be limited to

There is no entry of the Winlogon.exe in the Registry. You can simply
add the following key. You must add these lines to a Text-File and name
it as xxx.reg (Ex. VNC.reg). Start it -> It works.

Ok I found it, under the http://www.darkage.co.uk/vnc/howto/setupfp.htm

That was the first thing I checked, even though I also use the ODS service

correct IP and I've tried connecting to it and not via the fqdn.

In order to set the password, you have to export a working password from the
registry of a already configured VNC server.
There is a utility on the website that can walk you through this. Regedit
does not export the values correctly, so that will not work.

Ben,
I primarily deal with 98 systems, but I think you need to
manually load and configure vnc on one PC first, then copy
some of the reg settings into other files. I believe the
password needs to be copied to machine.ini.

I've been having a problem with Xvnc crashing (server crashes, not the

There are two keys to add to be able to control how VNC should respond while
another person try to connect on a PC already managed by a VNC connnection.
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ORL\WinVNC3]
"ConnectPriority"=dword:? (depends on what you want)

Is there any way I can configure a VNC server running on windows 2000
machine to only exclusively accept one connection at a time, that is
should others wish to connect (or even from same IP), they cannot until
the current connection is still open ?

How about the server determines the authentication protocol,
so when you setup your server, you say what to use and what domain or server,
then the client just have username/password fields.
