I am having problems trying to use VIM under VNC.
I have recently updated my FreeBSD box from 3.2 to 4.7 and with it the
latest versions of VNC, vim, and XFree86 (at least the latest included with
FreeBSD 4.7). However now I am no longer able to get the Gui version of VIM
to work correctly under V
putty is set up correctly.
The VNC viewer doesn't create/use that registry setting. Only the server
does.

If you are asking if there is a way for VNC to do it, no.
If you are asking
You said there is not firewall beyond the router but that there's a firewall
which you control. Not sure which is the case. In any case, I suggest you
turn off the firewall to test the port forwarding on your router.
Also, perhaps you can tell us how you setup the port fowarding.

On SSH client:
ssh -L 5901:localhost:5900 username@serveripaddress
If you use something like "PuTTY" ssh client, Enter the serveripaddress, port
22 & click ssh the "session" screen". Then under the SSH / tunnel screen set
up a local forward for for 5901:localhost:5900.

Well, this means that your question is not vnc related.
Some sites/ISPs block ping because there are some _funny_
people out on the net who try to get those servers off
the net by pinging them to death. So firewal
