I have been using a vnc session to log in into my office network. For
years.
Now suddenly my dedicated channel wont work.
I have killed the session, restarted the vnc server several times,
physically rebooted the server
a few times, and my new session still wont work.

Perhaps, the thing to do in this case, don't use VNC. VNC/Xvnc is
essentially mimicking an X11/Xserver display on the remote server
(aka remote frame buffer). By the time the X11/Xserver objects reach
the VNCviewer on your local host, everything has turned into pixels.
One choice
I find the download of viewer is slow first time browser is launched. How does
one keep the viewer code locally once it has been downloaded. Obviously it is
cached somehow since it loads instantly the second and subsequent connections.

It's the client that I upgraded only. The error happens when I am using the
session and when I am not. It does not seem to make a difference. It seems
to happen at random, but within 10 to 20 minutes of use or so.

think of vnc server as a web server running on each machine you want
to control on port 5900.

When you are controlling it over the internet you need to use its

We are running the latest version of VNC on windows 2000 and 2003 servers
and quite often we run into a problem where all the icon on the desktop are
slected or highlighted when a connection is made to the server via VNC. ANY
IDEAS?

code of the page called when connecting to my server through

The cable modem end most likely has a firewall either hardware or
software (Windows XP SP2 has a firewall, NAV2005 has a firewall...)
