too? why does it give rfb message?
(I don't use Debian, so be tolerant.)
Since you suspected this is a Gnome issue, have you tried to use
another WM instead?
On the other hand, make sure you're not running an additional VNC
server when you start your X session.

I have users connecting to my webserver and snagging the java vncviewer
client. Is there a way to force setting upon the user? Basically I
want to disable the "Options..." button as well as the "Encryption"
select drop down.

(http://vncsnapshot.sourceforge.net); it will save the VNC screen (or
