I know what it is used for (according to the FIC Manuel). I just wanted a
sanity check. I will remove the Virus Detection. I forgot that I am not using
a /boot partition anymore (not needed since I use LINUX Only).

In short yes, but it will only work at the speed supported IE an ATA100 drive
will work at ATA33-66-and 100. I buy ATA133 drives and use them on my ATA100
interface all the time.

I have finally got a buner. Funds were limited, but got a good deal on an HP
cd-writer 9100 series (EIDE). SuSE 7.1 recognized it, but I am not able to
mount the drive with a blank media or a music CD. the error is
