Does that method make them appear in iTunes movie section and are they
converted or does that still have to be done by iTunes?

I've had some success with DivX Doctor II. If the avi creator has
created it a certain way (as are about 80-90% of them in my
experience) DivX Doctor converts it to a .mov file with zero loss a
quality and only takes about 5min for a 700mb file. iTunes plays these
no probs, but don't know about iP
I have had some issues with Handbrake failing to convert some files and quality
issues with iSquint (BTW. now no longer supported) that have been solved with
MPEGStreamclip.
Trying all three will give you the ability to deal with almost any file.

couple of months ago I had problem with my " NAD 705" amp, ( about
16 yrs old, excellent, ) I took it to " Alberts " at Joondalup, they
repaired it in I think was 8 days, ( I think they till have the shop
in Perth where we got it originally ) worth a phone call,

drive has developed the ³click of death² and will have to be replaced.
(that¹s what I get for buying an ³all-in one² unit).
One Electronics firm has a waiting list of 4-8 weeks before even looking at
it.
