Hi Genevieve
Thank you, I have had a FANTASTIC day
Yes there is voice control on the TomTom for iPhone (quite a few)

I would think twice though before shelling out for a nav app for the
iPhone. The GPS part of the phone does not work very
Pedro, I have to disagree with you on this one. I don't have the TomTom but do use the Sygic alternative. It, like the TomTom, uses the internal GPS and has proved very accurate. It doesn't use downloaded information from cell towers. As for the voice navigation. The Sygic uses voice direction but
it gets the signal from the satellites - not from the mob/phone
towers, maybe Pedro is getting confused with the Maps application.
Cheers,
Walter

I used my iPhone as a GPS for navigating in Melbourne every day for a
week. I only have a 5Mb free allowance with my plan and used only a
very small part of it.

Hi Eugene
Thanks for that, I didn't realise it turned the GPS off as well.
I also noticed in the discussion it's not much good without the data.
Airplane Mode shuts down all radios in the iPhone. While it's true
that the GPS radio is a receiver only, it's also true that there is
not much

Hi all,
On the topic of default programmes, downloads, etc., one utility I
have always consulted is the RCDefaultApp preference pane:
http://www.rubicode.com/Downloads/RCDefaultApp-2.0.1.X.dmg While it
doesn't work miracles, it does offer a range of information and

Hi Neil,
Sorry I missed your original posting. I use CSV files extensively. The
issue is that 10.5's QuickLook doesn't have a setting for CSV files --
it treats them as unknown. You can download a nifty CSV plugin for
QuickLook here: http://code.google.com/p/quicklook-csv/ (I have used

I have a APC Smart-UPS 620 that is surplus to requirements if anyone
is interested. Probably needs a new battery.
