Adrian No, reapplying the Combo update should hopefully get you back to how the computer should have been if you didn’t run out of battery. When manually installing the update make sure you select to install it on the Hard Drive of the Macbook Pro connected via target disk mode, I think its a yell

my tale of woe was that my time capsule power supply died. This was a Known Bug with the earlier ones. Applecare warranty on the imac so all good it was replaceable. but. They would not let me have my data back. I asked them whether I could buy back the HDD which had nothing wrong with it.
