I have resolved the ‘Freeze’ problem by turning off the machine with the on and
off switch, then after 10 seconds re-starting the Computer whilst holding down
the ‘Option’ key.
Sorry to bother you, now that I am up and running I will try and resolve my
desktop problem..

I am having trouble deleting the deleted items from my Desk top Trash bin. I
receive a message: There are locked items in the trash do you want to delete
the locked items, When I request that all items be deleted the deleting starts
but after 2 or 3 seconds the rubbish deleting comes to
from the contextual menu for Trash.
Release the keys pressed and held in step 2.
