Hi Ronni
The network is set up through a Netgear ADSL2+ wireless modem/router.
No Airport Extreme/Express/Time Capsule is in place and both the iMac and
MacBook access the internet wirelessly through it.
I looked at what James said yesterday and as both are able to access the
internet and all
Ok Pedro,
"Shared" is only present in the sidebar if you have any connected severs or any
bonjour computers on your local network.
If none of these are available the Shared section will disappear.
It will reappear when needed.
So, as James suggested yesterday, somehow your iMac & MacBook ar

I just answered my own question in that last post. Tried to figure out why it
is happening to both computers at the same time. What's common to both, the
modem, did a reboot of the netgear and bingo!! "SHARED" tab appeared on both
just like magic.
I love this list, a bi
Hi Ronni
Tried that , still no go. Weird thing is it is both the new iMac that I got
from Daniel a little while ago and the MacBook that is just on 2 years old.
I tried unchecking the "places" boxes and "places" disappeared as it should and
when I check the boxes it reappeared as it should. Un
Hi Pedro,
Hmmm weird behaviour with your Finder sidebar.
This sounds silly, but, give it a try:
1. Uncheck all the selections under Shared in Preferences.
See what happens ...
2. If the "Shared" option appears, then re-check all the options under Shared
in the Finder Preferences.
3. Then see i
Hi Ronni

Hi Pedro,
Did you trash both the prefs. files and then restart your computer?
Is it just "Shared" that you can't see in the Finder's Sidebar?
You can see everything else in the Finders Sidebar "Devices", "Places", "Search
For"?
Yeah, little "Tigger" is a great car, only problem the "Speed Poli
Hi Ronni
No, that did not work.
I even downloaded the bonjour update last night and did a repair and still no
go.
Thanks for the iPhone help file by the way. Good work well done again.
Love your car. Top Gear did a test on the UK version last week and Hammond
actually liked it

Hi Pedro,
Also at the same time, drag this preference file to the trash as well,
"com.apple.sidebarlists.plist".
Same location ~library>preferences>
Then restart your computer.

Hi Pedro,
Try trashing the Finder preference file and restarting
(com.apple.finder.plist).
Then re-enter your personal finder preferences.
The file is located in your home folder (abbreviated ~).
Go to ~library>preferences and drag "com.apple.finder.plist" to the trash.
OS X will rebuild th

Hi Pedro,
For a Mac to show 'Shared' in the Finder's sidebar, there must be at
least two computers correctly operating on the same network. This is
because Shared is hidden for solo computers. Your computers seem to
think they are solo, and a failure in merely one of the pair would
cause this to
Hi Guys
Thank you for the prompt reply.
I am not worried about the iTunes part at the moment ,I will sort that out
later...
It's the shared tab in finder that has gone missing is the main concern . Both
the iMac and MacBook
are on the same network (netgear wireless) using AirPort

Are you sharing just itunes or other files? Are you sharing both
machines' libraries or just one?
Have you turned on file sharing in system preferences >sharing on the
machine you want to share?

Evening Pedro,
You need to enable Sharing in iTunes, not Finder.
From memory it will only show the Shared menu item if it does find a shared
library.

Evening all,
While trying to set up iTune sharing with our new iMac I have noticed that the
shared tab in the finder is missing on both the iMac and MacBook.
I have been into Finder preferences and ticked all three shared boxes and
nothing happens . Have tried unticking/ticking other boxes and
