I have been turning text into html. A collegue sends me text in emails. I copy the text and paste it into TextEdit, then I copy and paste it into an html editor. He sprinkles his text liberally with ampersand signs, , which require coding. To save time and effort, it is my custom to Find

Disabling TextEdit

select a Word file, instead of going to the app in OS 9.2.2 , Text Edit opens. To overcome the problem, I 'drag drop' the file to the MS Word icon in the Dock. Bit of a nuisance but easily done. Is it possible to keep TextEdit but disable it so that I decide when to use it ? Thank you

Interesting tip - opening Microsoft Word documents in Textedit!

DId anyone else notice this feature? You can now open Word documents in Textedit(panther version) (for those that don't know, this is the free text reader that comes with Mac OS X) Amazing! Though I haven't fully tested it out yet with complex formatted docs(eg tables) it works for text

I have recently moved from OS9 to OSX. When I open my old MS 2001 Word files they open as TextEdit files. Even files I open in word and save still open in TextEdit. Is there any way I can set preferences for MS Word to automatically open any text or .doc files? Thanks Lloyd --
