i have real player installed which gives me the realplayer downloader, it
automatically starts when a youtube video is clicked lets you download the
movie, with adaptor.app i extract the sound into a preselected format, all for
free...

what i was meant to say was that a colleague of mine has been using 'atube
catcher' for to get music he likes from youtube.
i was wondering if there is a similar app/software for mac which does the same
thing.
i was going to get atube
Jaksta does a good job of almost all streamed media. You need to pay for it
though.
