Hey Heather!  Here's a shout out to you, too, me dove for your lovely tribute to those in the Winedale tribe you may not know but love through association.  And yes, Doc's tribute to Robert was the best, the sweetest, the funniest and the most moving.  What an excellent writer Doc is, hmm?

Robert! Congratulations on this milestone! I have been gone from Austin and Texas for so long, but I can well imagine the mark you (of all people) have made! Kudos to you, and all my best to you and your family! Maria Maria Black Florence, MA 01062 (413) 329-8255 www.mariablackwriting.com On

Such shivers as I read this. Not being one of the anointed few (many?) who know Robert Faires, I did not want to pile on. HOWEVER, Doc’s inspired rededication of this poem nearly brought me to tears. Despite the fact that I know none of you past 1973-74, I feel I know you nonetheless.

It really feels like the ground has shifted, now that Robert is stepping away from being an institutional pillar of the Chronicle. To be honest, it makes me want to go back and reread everything he's written. (And also to say, Robert, that it would be nice if you wrote a bunch more.) Mike On

Say it ain’t so, Robert! Can it really be 35 years? What a run. That means for more than half my life, I’ve had the pleasure of looking forward to picking up the Chronicle each week and knowing your voice would be in there somewhere in the Arts section. I think you and I were still
