Is anyone using RAID with redundancy? Or is the backup more intended to protect
against catastrophic failure (lightning, fire etc) which would wipe out
multiple drives as easily as a single drive?
Seems like RAID combined with off site backup would be the easiest. No physical
drives to lug

Get some 1U iSCSI units, most have 4 drives, drop in 2TB drives. Then
get about 5 of those. You setup RAID 5 on the 4 drives in each unit,
then RAID5 across 5 units! Great redundancy and AWSOME speeds as you
have 5 gig to balance with!
I use RAID 5 with a hot spare on all servers. I backup to online service once a
week Sat Night (changes only). But Backup to eSata HD nightly. 800 Mbs image
transfer compared to 1-2 Mb with online upload backup if you're lucky. Full
server image backup with verify and SQL. 30min with open

I didn't get in to it for liability purposes but you could just use Cobian
Backup and an FTP server.
I'd probably start with two boxes in two areas, rsync between the two and
have customers talk to the first one.

And. If you don't have a hot air solder station for the SMD chips, like
me also, I use ChipQuik to remove the old damaged chip. Smooth as can be.

That's actually pretty normal under RUS grants and loans Scottie.
THEY will only loan to one company in one area.
YOU can still build your business in any way you choose, just not with RUS
money.
Yeah, it sucks. I've lived with that in some of my areas for a long time.
The great news here is
Yes, here is a snippet of my emails to them:
RUS has no requirement that awardees offer service to resellers. The

This is a question for any of you running fiber up your towers.
1.How are you doing strain relief on the fiber?
2.Do you run it in conduit or use the armored stuff and not worry about
conduit?
3.If conduit. Is it flexible or rigid?
4.What type of transceiver are you using at the top?
Pics?
I do not know exactly what guage/brand/type of wire, but it has 3125
07:08 ROHS printed on it and then a number of feet. It is ran up the
side of the tower and cable tied about every five feet. On the bottom
end of the cable we have a PolyPhaser PLDO-120US20A to protect the
