[Xmame] xmess and nes...

Hello all. I'm reconfiguring my Gentoo Linux box, and have emerged xmess (x11) version 0.70 from Aug 1, 2003. I've been trying to use it as an NES emulator, as the other ones I've tried (fakenes, tuxnes, darcnes, fceu) have all been less-than-stellar (various issues with each one, mainly speed i

Hello. I've just re-installed my gentoo system, and emerged the new xmame version 0.72.1 (Aug 18 2003). For some reason, however, my gravis gamepad's not working anymore, and it was working fine before. I didn't do anything special when I emerged the package, so I assume it would compile with th

Just an FYI, that fixed it just fine, the ebuild seems to be OK. Thanks for all the help, everyone! I'm building xmess now, so hopefully that'll be fixed soon too, and I can finally play NES games on my linux system! Adam, much happier now that the gamepad works! ___

[Xmame] Joystick mapping via RC files?

2003-08-19 Thread Adam Scriven
Hello again. xmame and xmess are working awesome, thanks to everyone (especially the ebuild maintainer!). The question I have now is, I've got a gravis 4-button gamepad, and I'd like to configure those 4 buttons differently, depending on the different system I happen to be emulating at the time (

[Xmame] XMESS Bios files?

2003-08-19 Thread Adam Scriven
I seem to be asking a lot of questions l8ly, I hope no one minds. :) I'm looking for some system bioses/ROMS, like the Apple ][ ROMs. I looked through the sources, but couldn't find the files. Is there anywhere to download them, or should I just keep hunting? Thanks! Adam _

[Xmame] ALSA issues, probably permissions.

2003-08-26 Thread Adam Scriven
Hey again. For some reason, the permissions on my gentoo box have gotten hosed, at least for the /dev directory. I'm fixing them when I find them (first one was the scanner), but I still get: No cards detected. ALSA sound disabled. I do have alsa installed, and AFAIK it is running (I'm getting so

Is it possible to use the crtlr stuff with xmess as well as xmame? The only documentation I can find is 1) windows based, and 2) MAME based. Is there anywhere I can go to figure out how to make this controller stuff work using text files and not binary (done in xmess via the TAB menu)? Also, how
