After some research on a few TNT and GeFore cards, I think I can
answer this question myself.
It seems that the hardware which handle

Thanks
I'm no Xpert on this, but it appears that someone forgot to put -fPIC
in one of the makefiles?
That would cause the _GLOBAL_OFFSET_TABLE linkage error...

Have the Usenix paper (which should be available on the Usenix web site,
but for some reason, it isn't: I've complained at them to fix this).

Hui's patch does add support for new ATI chips
Thanks for finding this problem. I have checked in the changes to
radeon_reg.h to add this register.
BTW, I only have x86 test machines, so I would be very interested to
hear if there are any other problems with this patch.
Thanks,

You need to get a newer version of the sis driver from thomas' site.

The older ones did not work properly with multiple cards.

Are you using xdm (which is what I've assumed)? Xinit or startx? Or
perhaps kdm, gdm or somesuch?
If you're using xinit, you should put the path to Xvesa on the xinit
command line, or else have the X symlink point at Xvesa.
I've played around with trying to get my dual head hardware working, ATI
Radeon VE with vga and digital out. I've tried all kinds of
configurations to no avail. The best I get is a mirrored image on both
monitors.
I'm including the entries below I noted from a previous poster because

As far as i have read on the list in a posting from "hy0"
there was a patch against XFree86 development branch that
made it into the CVS. This might add support new ATI chipsets.
AFAIK X4.2.1 differs from X4.2.0 only in a fixed securi

Hi
I am trying to get XFree86 to work with two monitors with a SIS
6326 card and an ATI Rage Fury 128 card. I can get it to work with one
of them at a time but it refuses to work with both of them. My
configuration is below and I have attached the XFree86 log. Could

Hi,
I have tried to build XFree86-4.2.1 (I got a patch in ftp.xfree86.org), with
Gcc 2.96.
After I have done the make install, I try to start X, the following error
occurs.
