Thanks Paul and I agree, stale date notwithstanding. Oregon University System tech salaries are low and particularly to start, but to their credit, benefits are high and start immediately - the trade off can work for employees with families or those who want wider professional experience or those who are not getting recruited for whatever reason. Our professional development history is ok; three of our programmers have been hired by Google in the last few years and their starting pay there has been superb, though not quite six figures.
Your point about being interested in the work is a good one. I should have mentioned that the project is a statewide Early Intervention case management system. It's a wide ranging application supported by a small team, and programmers get to try a lot of their own ideas. Agencies using the system all provide services to disabled kids.
