Funny thing is, since 2.4.6 or there abouts, the VM became stable enough
where IO wasn't causing insane CPU load (which was in turn causing
execution to get really choppy).
As far as pre-patches go, they're not releases.. so don't complain :)
If you feel it necessary, talk to the kernel devel people.
Have you used 2.4.7? Doesn't sound it.. so there's no reason to point
fingers at it. I feel that 2.4.7 is the best 2.4 kernel so far, and for
good reason. The VM was nuts before 2.4.6.
If it's any consolation, they are working on the VM quite a bit. So it
could be a little while before anything solid comes out of it. 2.4.8-pre4
is supposed to have some IO request improvements, as per the ChangeLog.
As suggested already, it could also be your choice of config options :)
