from my understanding all users who want to use a samba server *must* be
on the linux machine, if u keep the standard /etc/samba/smb.conf it will
work for basic usage (just uncomment the line saying enabled encrypted
passwd for windoze machines, just copy it somewhere safe first)..
this is what you must do (*just* to get up and running)
1. create a user that is already on the windoze network
(well call him bob)
2. as root (for all of this):
/sbin/useradd bob
/sbin/passwd bob
(enter bobs passwd, for simplicity safe give him the same passwd as
for the windoze boxs)
cat /etc/passwd | mksmbpasswd.sh > /etc/samba/smbpasswd
/sbin/smbadduserd bob (then enter bobs passwd)
3. /etc/init.d/smb restart
Now you should be able to log in from the windoze box and brows bobs
home directory.
the smb.conf is pretty well documented, so adding hard drives to exports
is pretty easy (but i would stay away from using swat, if u like to read
the comments in the smb.conf file)
