I am running RH7.1, and everything seems to be working
fine, except I cannot get my printer to work! It is an
Epson 777, and it is USB (it also has a parallel port, but
I don't want to use that because my ZIP drive is parallel
port, and I want to try and get that to work, that's my
NEXT post ;-)

Anyway, all the documentation for Red Hat seems to want
folks to use the printconf-gui program, (it auto-generates
the printconf file each time it is run, so they say). The
printer came with a USB cable, but no parallel cable.

The motherboard is an ABIT; there is 256 MB of RAM, 2 6-gig
hDD's, PII, the parallel ZIP drive, and there are 3 PCI
cards (video, audio and ethernet).

I've read all kinds of documentation about printing; I even
have the "Running Linux" book. However, I don't understand
why it won't work?

Local Printer EPSON777 /dev/lp0 Driver: Stylus Color 777
(these are the values from the printconf-gui program).

I also have a second "printer" set up, using the same
driver, on /dev/usb/lp0 since I thought this would work.

In printconf-gui, for a local printer you can only specify
/dev/lp0. I just realized that I don't know how I got the
program to recognize /dev/usb/lp0! nevertheless, it does
not work. It won't print a test page, or anything. Also,
none of the idea in the "Running linux" book worked, either.

Any ideas? TIA,
