ALL, Just today was at a wireless hacking demo in Irvine CA for the "Usual Suspects" where the idea that "100 yards (heck, even 500+ yards and growing) = Safety"... was blown out of the water with normal "tools", with easy to find "equipment" and a little juice from your ride.
Two things: 1. behind the router/firewall eliminates the security you'll want from crackers. 2. In front of the devices drops your "Shared" possibilities out. Simple like that! If it's for personal use your good... if you need to share anything, with anyone, you're vulnerable. Good Luck... I'd really consider how important your files are... if it's no big deal, go for it. Brian, Many thanks for your help. I have ordered the stuff any way, any one trying to sniff outside the house would be extremely noticeable as I live in a dead end/cul de sac. I am aware that they could sniff from 100 yards or so but I'll have to see if I can sniff it my self with the laptop as it were from a friends house whilst it is running. All good stuff for the learning curve :-) At 13:05 16/10/2001 -0400, you wrote: >I am considering doing the same thing at home and have done a fair bit of >research. > >What I have determined so far: > >1.
